Golden's History

Golden was one of many towns founded during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush in 1859. Originally a mining camp, the settlement was named after Thomas L. Golden, one of its founders. Golden served as the capital of Colorado Territory from 1862 to 1867, when the capital was moved to Denver. For many years, Golden served as a regional trade and industry center.
